This is Peanut, he‘s a 7 year old mini pinscher/chihuahua mix.
Peanut has been a Plantbased dog for some months now and is loving his new diet, which says a lot, since he has always been a harsh food critic.
It all started when Peanut was a little puppy. he has always been really picky with his foods and hated almost every kind of kibble or other ‘‘traditional‘‘ dog food i would present to him.
after years and years of basically forcing him to eat the foods that he hated, i started to think about which foods he actually liked.
Strangely enough, he always LOVED vegetables. we used to make jokes saying he was born as a vegetarian dog, but as the years went by i started to realize that while i cared a lot about the foods that i put in my own mouth, i didnt give too much thought to what i was puting into Peanuts.
after watching the documentary ‘‘Pet fooled‘‘ there was no going back. I realized that just like the milk, meat, egg and dairy industry is build up on fake slogans and ‘‘happy animals‘‘ the animal food industry does exactly the same by promoting kibble and other dog foods as ‘‘ natural‘‘ ‘‘full of protein‘‘, ‘‘grain free‘‘ ‘‘corn free‘‘ and healthy for our animals.in reality, it is exactly the opposite.
I asked around and did my research on if it was even possible for a dog to live on a plantbased diet and thrive, and i found out that it is not just possible, but also extremely health promoting. as a matter of fact the oldest dog that ever lived, was in fact living on a plantbased diet!
On top of that i found many other dogs that were living happy lives on a vegan diet, and even though it takes commitment and a bit of planning, it is completely do-able.
I can safely say Peanut has never been more excited about dinner time, and is keeping a good and stable weight while having his normal high amount of energy.
I change his food up a little every week so it stays interesting. i make him homemade vegan meals 1-2 a week and keeps it in a airtight container in the fridge so it stays fresh.
Everytime i wanna add a new food to his diet i do my research into if the certain plant food is good for dogs or not and which nutrients it contains.
if you are thinking of switching your dogs diet to a vegan diet, always do your research into it and make sure it is getting all the nutrients it needs while consulting a veterinarian or even a few for different opinions.
if you‘re interested in how a Vegan dogs meal could look like heres Peanuts food prep for the week for inspiration:

This week i chose to make his food out of Lentils, Rice, Quinoa, Sweet Potatoes, Carrots, and Zucchini. I also add a bit of either Coconut oil or another healthy oil to his food every week. this week i used coconut oil.
Zucchini is good for dogs, and help to make their skin and fur healthy, but he‘s not getting zucchini every week as its good for them in smaller amounts and shouldn‘t be over-used.
Sweet potato is great for dogs in general and helps their digestive system work smoothly, as sweet potatoes are high in dietary fiber.
Sweet potatoes are also very rich in the antioxidant beta-carotene. Beta-carotene converts to Vitamin A in your dog’s body, which is essential for your dog’s vision, growth, and muscle strength. Lentils are a really great source of protein, zinc and iron for dogs and are as healthy for dogs as they are for humans.
Carrots are also contain high amounts of Vitamin A and will make your dogs fur and skin shiny while also being good for your dogs digestive system due to the high amounts of fiber.
other things i like to put into his foods or give him as a daily snack is bell peppers, or cucumbers.
Bell peppers are a great source of Vitamin C and contain a large amount of beta carotene which can prevent cancer and decrease the chances of cataracts and other eye aliments in especially aging dogs and are also known to prevent arthritis in dogs.
Cucumbers are a great hydrater and have a high amount of potassium and are really good for teeth and bone growth. Cucumbers can also promote healthy liver and kidneys when theyre paired with carrots.

I chop all the ingredients up and place them in a pot with water and bring it to a boil until theyre all cooked.

when its done it should look something like this ^

Place some in his bowl, let it cool down and Serve! Easy!
